As the Nebraska football team kicks off spring practice, there are almost a dozen players who won't participate. The number could grow to an even dozen if two players waiting to get cleared can't find a way to get healthy enough before the Spring Game.
Most of the names are far from a surprise, though a few of the guys have got to be frustrated they have to wait even longer than some hoped before they can show what they can do for the Huskers. Wide receiver Demitrius Bell is right at the top of that list. Bell was injured in the 2024 Spring Game and hasn't played in a game since.
Nebraska is starting spring practice earlier than usual and that could be another reason that some of these guys won't be ready to come back in time. Almost all the players were expected to at least be limited in practice, considering they're still recovering from injuries suffered in the 2025 season.
Nebraska football awaits clearance for Tyson Terry and Jake Peters during spring session
Head coach Matt Rhule revealed there are 10 players who are definitely out for the entirety of spring practice:
- Bell
- Janiran Bonner
- Rex Guthrie
- Gunnar Gottula
- Blye Hill
- Mac Markway
- Gibson Pyle
- JuJu Marks
- Dawson Merritt
- Gage Stenger
Two others are waiting to get cleared and could participate in spring practice at some point:
- Tyson Terry
- Jake Peters
The big question, that won't have an answer until sometime this summer, is how many of the players missing the spring session will be back to start fall camp and really have a chance to play for Nebraska in 2026.
