When the Nebraska football team landed defensive back Danny Odem, Matt Rhule and Co. knew they got a special player. The corner showed just how special he is on Friday night when he led The First Academy (Orlando, FL) to a win thanks to his defensive performance.
Not only did Odem pick off three passes, but he almost had a fourth. In all, he had a heck of a Friday night against Venice. Considering his team won 21-14, that kind of defensive performance is a big reason why his squad is waking up on Saturday morning after a victory.
The Nebraska football commit's performance was especially important considering his own team was far from great.
Venice and The First Academy traded giveaways all night and combined for six turnovers. The Indians came up with key turnovers three times, and the Lions responded by getting the ball back just a few plays later all three times.

Killing those offensive drives was huge for Odem's team and showed that he's can and will step up big when the game is on the line. There's an obvious reason why Husker fans were so excited to get him when he committed earlier this summer.
There's also the little tidbit that the Nebraska football team hasn't had a ton of success recruiting the 2026 class. Matt Rhule and his staff need to find a way to keep Odem in the fold right up until signing day. That might get more teams going after him if he keeps having games like Friday night.
