Nebraska football landed the quarterback it wanted in Trae Taylor, but Braylen Warren isn’t making the evaluation look simple. After outdueling the Husker commit in the state's biggest game of the season, Warren has now shut down his recruitment and locked himself in with Missouri.
Warren told On3’s Hayes Fawcett that he’s shutting down his recruitment. The announcement comes after Warren’s recruitment looked set to heat up as Penn State began pushing to pry him away from the Missouri Tigers. However, the Tigers’ head coach Eli Drinkwitz traveled to Omaha to see Warren take on Nebraska quarterback commit Trae Taylor in person. He saw Warren post huge numbers again as he outlasted the Millard South Patriots, a juggernaut in the state’s high school football landscape over the last few years.
Warren is a 4-star quarterback in the 2027 recruiting class. The 6-foot-1, 203-pound quarterback plays for Omaha Westside. Warren committed to Missouri on December 4, 2025, becoming the Tigers’ first commitment in the 2027 class. He is the son of former Nebraska defensive tackle Steve Warren.
Warren is ranked as the No. 219 player in the 2027 class, the No. 17 player at his position and the No. 3 player in the state of Nebraska according to the latest Rivals Industry Rankings.
Braylen Warren reaffirms Missouri commitment after Nebraska football passes on in-state quarterback
Warren has nearly 20 scholarship offers, including Arkansas, California, Cincinnati, Florida State, Illinois, Iowa, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Michigan State, Missouri, Oklahoma State, South Florida, Toledo, Virginia, Virginia Tech, and Wisconsin, among others. Penn State became the latest major program to enter his recruitment when head coach Matt Campbell traveled to Omaha and extended Warren an offer on October 21, 2026.
After a lot of thought and consideration, I’ve decided to shut down my recruitment and fully focus on my commitment to the University of Missouri. I’m grateful for every coach, program, and opportunity that has been part of this journey, and I’m excited for what’s ahead at… https://t.co/vGuJaTy2ol

As a junior at Omaha Westside in 2025, Warren completed 125 of 202 passes for 1,847 yards, 27 touchdowns and six interceptions, completing 61.9 percent of his attempts. He also rushed 68 times for 288 yards and three touchdowns, for 2,135 yards of total offense and 30 total touchdowns, leading Westside to a 10-2 record and a berth in the Nebraska Class A state semifinals. As a sophomore in 2024, Warren completed 67.1 percent of his passes for 2,105 yards, 30 touchdowns, and 8 interceptions, and added 175 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns.
Through Omaha Westside’s undefeated 2026 regular season, Warren has thrown for 1,773 yards and 23 touchdowns with two interceptions, while also rushing for more than 550 yards and five touchdowns. Through the first eight games, he had completed 86 of 135 passes for 1,522 yards, 19 touchdowns, and two interceptions while rushing for 493 yards and four scores. Warren then delivered his biggest performance of the season in Westside’s 41-17 win over previously unbeaten Millard South on October 23, completing 11 of 24 passes for 253 yards and four touchdowns, and rushing 15 times for 66 yards and another score.
Perhaps the most interesting aspect of Braylen Warren’s recruitment is that Nebraska never gave him an official offer. Obviously, Matt Rhule and his staff zeroed in on Taylor quickly and landed their top target early in the process. It will be interesting to see how each quarterback performs at the college level.
