It doesn’t appear that the Nebraska football program is the only team in the Big Ten that’s going to change how it carries out its spring game.
The Texas Longhorns already followed the Huskers in the announcement that rather than a full scrimmage, there would be “something” planned for the date of the spring game. Or at least, the SEC school is considering changing the way it’s doing things. The Cornhuskers on the other hand, have already said that instead of the spring game, they’re going to do some kind of showcase. It turns out that national champion Ohio State is following suit.
The Nebraska football team said that it didn’t want to give opponents the ability to very easily scout its players and tamper with them after the game. That’s why it’s not planning on putting whatever it does on TV. Ohio State hasn’t said that was the driving force, but it did announce that rather than a spring game, it’s going to roll out a “spring showcase” and it’s possible making sure it won’t be all that easy to watch it could be part of it.
Nebraska football Big Ten rivals follows in Huskers’ footsteps
It turns out that the Buckeyes are planning the showcase for April 12 and much like the Huskers, OSU hasn’t said exactly how this showcase will be different from a regular scrimmage.
Ohio State is just the third Power Conference level team to cancel the spring game, or at least announce something else was taking place instead. However, ti stands to reason that more teams will follow suit and do what Nebraska football is doing in the next few years.
