To the surprise of no one, once fans could buy alcohol and beer at Nebraska football games, they bought a lot of it. What might be a bit eyebrow-raising is the volume of sales compared to other programs around the country.

It probably shouldn't surprise anyone that other Big Ten programs also have quite a bit of success when they're willing to sell booze at football games. In fact, along with the Huskers, the top two sellers in the country, according to one new study, show that only Wisconsin has been more successful.

Nebraska football ranks among top programs for beer sales

Analyst Matt Brown of the Extra Points newsletter recently filed FOIA requests with 45 public universities that allow alcohol sales for games. While not everyone responded, and this report leaves out private universities, it's still impressive that not only did Nebraska make just over $2 million in sales, but it is also the No. 2 program in the country in that regard.

The $2 million number isn't new. The University confirmed they'd gotten about that amount of money in mid-October. Which means they've already made a bit more than that. However, how the Huskers stack up against other schools is interesting new info.

According to Brown, Wisconsin was in first place by a wide margin. The Badgers have made more than $3 million so far this year. After Nebraska, Tennessee is No. 3 with $1.6 million, then LSU with $1.5 million, and Minnesota rounds out the Top 5 with just over $1 million.

Nebraska has known for a while that this kind of venture would do well, but there have been voices around the state that have helped set up roadblocks. Those were finally lifted ahead of the 2025 season.
