A former Nebraska football quarterback looks like he’s going to get another chance to spread his NFL wings. It looks like there’s a chance that former Husker Adrian Martinez gets to keep trying his luck in the pros.

Martinez is one of 10 players to sign an NFL reserve contract with the New York Jets. The former Husker QB originally signed with the team in July and spent this past season on the practice squad after he threw for 270 yards, 0 touchdowns and 1 interception this preseason while completing 53.2% of his passes.

The former Nebraska football star being signed to a reserve contract means that the Jets liked what they saw from him on the practice squad to keep him around for training camps in 2025. These contracts don’t count against the 53-man roster limit, but they do count against the 90-person limit set once the new league year starts.

This kind of contract is needed because practice squad contracts are up after the season ends. It’s a way for the Jets to make sure Martinez will be there when they start getting ready for the upcoming season.

Martinez has hooked on with the Jets after a great rookie season with the Birmingham Stallions in the UFL. Before joining the jets he earned MVP honors while passing for 1,749 yards and 15 TDs in addition to leading the league with 528 yards rushing.

The reserve contract is just the latest move for the ex-Nebraska football star who also played for Kansas State during his college career. The quarterback appeared in 49 college games from 2018-22 and hit on 63.6% of his passes for 9,752 yards with 51 TDs and 31 TDs. He also ran for 2,928 yards and 45 touchdowns.
