Nebraska has already landed its first player out of the transfer portal, and it just so happened to be one of the best shooters available. Belmont transfer Sam Orme selected the Huskers over other programs gunning for him, and with whom Nebraska will be losing this season, it comes at a great time.
When talking about how he was going to bring in players from the portal, Hoiberg knew Nebraska wasn't going to be able to compete financially with other large programs. However, he knew that giving players a place to develop on the court, but also bringing them into a program with a good culture, could help sell the Huskers.
That type of thinking is exactly why Orme chose Nebraska over other schools trying to recruit him out of the portal. The type of culture that Hoiberg has brought to Nebraska is one that Orme loved.
"I had been watching a lot of Big Ten games this year, and I’ve seen how they play and how well they play together," Orme said when announcing his commitment. "That was one of the reasons why I chose to commit to Nebraska."

Orme has been keeping tabs on other schools, it seems like, especially in the Big Ten, and it was the perfect time for Nebraska to have the season that they did. Not only was the Huskers' success a factor in Orme choosing Nebraska, but it was also the way the team played together.
All season long, Nebraska players have talked about the brotherhood they formed this season, and clearly, that was showing on the court. It is easy for a team to play together when they want to play for each other, and that usually results in success.
Orme will certainly be able to step into a needed role for Nebraska next season with senior departures and a few transfer portal departures as well. Orme will also be able to step into the brotherhood at Nebraska and hopefully make some of the connections he saw when watching the Huskers.
