That didn't take long at all. The Nebraska basketball team received an official to land former Belmont Bruins forward Sam Orme on Wednesday night. Less than 24 hours later, he's officially committed to the Huskers and is officially Fred Hoiberg's first addition of Transfer Portal season.

The addition of Orme comes just one day after NU suffered a departure that caught many fans off guard. Berke Buyuktuncel said goodbye on Wednesday as well, despite the vibes following a historic season for Nebrasketball, that the big man got a tattoo commemorating their 28-7 record.

Orme could certainly fit the role of Berke's replacement, though he's been a much better offensive weapon than the Nebraska basketball team ever saw from the former UCLA Bruin. And yes, there is some serious irony that the first Husker to leave and the first player to join through the Transfer Portal this year both previously played for a Bruins team.

Nebraska scores a long range scorer who can fill the lane

With Belmont in 2025-26, Orme scored 12.7 points per game while hauling down 5 rebounds per contest. Head coach Fred Hoiberg would obviously love to see the 6-foot-9 youngster hit the boards a little harder but he has to love Orme's ability to put it in the hoop.

The forward shot 56% from the field and a whopping 40% from beyond the arc. It wasn't as though his shooting percentage was due to a small number of attempts. He hit 48-of-121 3-point attempts this season after draining 36-of-96 (37.5%) the year before.

There is one other aspect to all of this that should make Nebraska basketball fans smile. The Indiana Hoosiers were reportedly interested in Sam Orme for their own reloading efforts, but he signed with the Huskers quickly.
