First thing’s first. No Nebraska football players were selected in the first two days of the 2025 NFL Draft. That’s a problem that hopefully head coach Matt Rhule is addressing as we speak. That doesn’t take away from the large number of Husker fans who are feeling some serious schadenfreude over Shedeur Sanders still waiting to get the call.
The former Colorado Buffaloes quarterback was at one time considered the possible No. 1 overall pick. He was then at least considered a Top 5 pick. He will now go no earlier than the first pick of the fourth round.
Nebraska fans enjoy a little revenge as Shedeur Sanders falls in the NFL Draft
Two things can be true for Nebraska football fans. We can understand that some of the pointing and laughing is over the top. That someone managed to call and prank him, making him think an NFL was on the phone is beyond the pale.

However, Nebraska fans in particular, have no love lost for the Sanders family considering the absolutely ridiculous claims they made after the Buffs beat the Huskers in 2023. The claims that head coach Matt Rhule “dispresected” CU, followed by videos of the quarterback running up and flashing his watch in Rhule’s face (something Shedeur did often during that first 4-8 season) were utter nonsense.
Aside from the arrogance, entitlement, propensity to get sacked, overbearing father, and the media circus he'll bring, I can't understand why any franchise wouldn't want him.

And sure, Nebraska got some revenge the next year when the Huskers blew the doors off Colorado to open the 2024 rematch. But the comments and the behavior of the Sanders still rubbed people the wrong way. His departure from the field, before the contest was over was also, beyond the pale, especially since he wasn’t hurt.
Shedeur doesn’t have a talent problem. He doesn’t have an image problem. He doesn’t have a 'people are racist' problem. He has a father problem. No GM or coach wants to risk Deion on the airwaves week in and week out undermining the team on what they 'should be doing' with…

And then of course, there was the never ending victimhood. There was the claims that anytime someone didn’t say Shedeur Sanders was the best ever, his father would claim someone was using bias.

And then there was the realization that some NFL execs weren’t all that convinced he’s got the makeup to be a first round pick. Whether it’s his arm or the way he carries himself. It felt like people were finally seeing the same issues Nebraska football fans saw.

Shedeur Sanders will almost certainly get drafted early on Saturday, but Husker fans are enjoying the wait.
