It has been a busy offseason for Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule, from spring football to filling coaching vacancies to the recruiting cycle, and he earned a fun trip to Boston. While in Boston, Rhule had tickets to see the famous Savannah Bananas playing in Fenway Stadium, and one of those Bananas was pretty familiar to Rhule.

While watching the game, Rhule caught up with one former Nebraska Cornhusker, Kyle Perry, who signed to play with the Bananas in December of 2024. Perry was dealing with some health issues at the beginning of the Bananas season, but he has found his way back onto the field and even got the play in his dream stadium when the Bananas visited Kauffman Stadium back in late May.

Rhule was able to see Perry in Boston as the Bananas just played a series there against the Firefighters, another team in the Banana Ball League. Seeing two Cornhuskers link up outside of Omaha is always a fun thing, and it seemed like Rhule got to see some great baseball in a great stadium.

Kyle Perry is living out his baseball dream with the Savannah Bananas

Some would say that the Savannah Bananas aren't a real team and they don't play real baseball, but that really isn't true. They don't play the traditional game of baseball, but they are still playing the sport all those men grew up playing and loving, just with a little more flair. Those guys are real true athletes with some of the things they are able to do, and Kyle Perry is a part of all of it.

Perry joined the Bananas back in December 2024 after playing at Nebraska from 2019 to 2024. Perry had dreams of going to the MLB, but when he wasn't drafted, he decided to take some time from baseball until the Bananas came knocking.

Perry has made many appearances for the Bananas, none bigger, though, than when he got the chance to play in Kauffam Stadium, home of the Kansas City Royals. Growing up in Omaha, Nebraska, the Royals were the team Perry always watched and dreamed of playing for, and when his professional dreams came true, he thought he would never get a chance to play in the stadium.

Instead of wearing blue and white, Perry was wearing yellow as he got to finally pitch at Kauffam Stadium with the Bananas when they were there in late May. He not only got to play in a sold-out stadium, but he got to play in front of his friends and family who made the trip down.
