This time last year, Nebraska Cornhuskers volleyball star Harper Murray was near the lowest point of her college career. She was cited for driving under the influence, she was cited for shoplifting and there were more than a few people who were advocating for then head coach John Cook to dismiss her from the team.
It turned out that Murray was dealing with the blowback on social media (mostly for comments she made after Nebraska lost the national title match) that had sent her into a depressive spiral. Eventually, she pulled out of what seemed to outsiders like a tailspin and put the awful offseason behind her. Now, one year after seemingly hitting bottom, she’s flying high as she shows leadership and kindness to Husker faithful.
Harper Murray’s inspiring Nebraska volleyball comeback
That kindness most recently emerged on Monday night when the Nebraska Cornhuskers star posted on X that she wanted to help some kids who live in or around Ord where her team will participate in a spring scrimmage on May 3 against South Dakota State, and give those kids her extra tickets.
I’d like to give my extra tickets for Saturday’s match in Ord to kids who live near Ord & were unable to get tickets. I have 3 tickets available. I’d love for a family w/ little Husker fans to use the tickets. DM me, I’ll review the messages w/ my mom & she will reach out.

“I have 3 tickets available,” Harper Murray wrote. “I’d love for a family w/ little Husker fans to use the tickets. DM me, I’ll review the messages w/ my mom & she will reach out.”
I don’t use X much so didn’t realize it’s hard to DM. Please respond to this tweet & tell me about some little Huskers that want to watch some volleyball in Ord on Saturday.

She did later seem to realize that X isn’t the best social media on the planet when it comes to having private conversations. DMs can be a pain unless both users are following each other.
Undeterred, the Nebraska volleyball star followed up her first message with a potential solve.
“Please respond to this tweet & tell me about some little Huskers that want to watch some volleyball in Ord on Saturday.”
Outside of the it simply beng a kind gesture, the giveaway seems to indicate that Murray is coming out of her shell a bit more when it comes to interacting with the public directly. Considering the truly disgusting messages she received for months after the Huskers lost to Texas in the national title game, it’s an impressive move for several reasons.
The icing on the cake is that several little Nebraska Cornhuskers fans are about to absolutely have their day made.
