The Nebraska Cornhuskers basketball team’s season was on life support entering Thursday night. Is it possible the overtime win over the Illinois Fighting Illini gave them the boost they needed to get off the ventilators?

At least one college basketball analyst believes the Huskers can still go to the Dance. Of course, they’re going to need to put more wins together as the season enters its final stretch.

Still, when it comes to Nebraska basketball’s resume, Jon Rothstein thinks there’s something there. Right after the win over the Illini, he took to twitter and explained how the Nebraska Cornhuskers have some big wins over big teams.

Nebraska Cornhuskers basketball team could still have a shot at March Madness

“Nebraska's key wins,” Rothstein wrote on Twitter. “At Creighton, UCLA, Illinois, Indiana. Huskers still have a resume. And better victories than many hovering around the cut line.”

Rothstein even left out the part about both UCLA and Illinois being ranked when the Nebraska basketball team beat them. Fred Hoiberg’s squad does indeed have some very nice wins on the resume.

The problem is that they have some very bad losses as well. It’s not even necessarily that the opponents were that bad. However, at some point, losing by 25+ on the road as often as the Huskers have is going to stain anyone’s resume.

When taking a look at their NET, the Nebraska basketball squad clearly isn’t completely out of the running. They jumped up to No. 57 from No. 62 after Thursday night. They’re also No. 46 according to KenPom

It’s clear that the Nebraska Cornhuskers are still in the running for the postseason. There’s still a  chance. That chance will get a lot better if they can find a big upset somewhere along the way. Sunday against Oregon would certainly fit that bill.
