Nebraska Cornhuskers news: Pool play drama, TV snubs, and signs of big things ahead

The Nebraska Cornhuskers are facing postseason puzzles, transfer buzz, and one former star’s cold confession.

It’s all come down to this for the Nebraska Cornhuskers baseball team. They fought tooth and nail to get into the Big Ten Tournament. Now they need to find a way to get some wins.

The tourney officially begins on Tuesday morning as the 11th-seeded Illinois Fighting Illini take on the 7th-seeded Michigan Wolverines at 10 a.m. The second game of the day features #10 Rutgers vs Indiana at 2 p.m. and then the 8th-seed Huskers take on the 12th-seeded Michigan State Spartans.

Because this is a pool play tournament and with the oddity of the scheduling, the Nebraska Cornhuskers will get two days after before they play again, against the Oregon Ducks, who despite being the top seed in Pool A will have to play two days in a row. Should they win the pool and then keep winning, they would play four days in a row.

Because there are only three teams in the pool, all three teams could conceivably go 1-1. Should this happen, the higher seed would win the tiebreaker. In other words, if Nebraska loses to Michigan State, they’ll have to hope the Spartans can knock off Oregon before NU beats the Ducks themselves in order to advance.

Nebraska Cornhuskers softball schedule shakeup

If the pool play was confusing, then wait until you hear what’s been going on with the Huskers’ softball team. Originally, the first game of Super Regionals against Tennessee was supposed to be on National TV on ABC at 3 p.m. on Thursday.

However, the game was removed from that slot for … reasons and moved to the evening where it will be broadcast on ESPN 2 at 6 p.m. There hasn’t been any explanation as to why the move and there isn’t another game scheduled in that Thursday afternoon slot.

Dedrick Mills doesn’t love the cold

As former Nebraska running back Dedrick Mills gears up for his fourth season in the CFL, he’s making it clear that he is not someone who will ever spend the winter in the Great White North again. He recently sat down for an interview where he explained it was simply too cold in Calgary during his offseason.

Transfer rankings getting love

ESPN recently put out a list of the Top 100 transfer portal players and the Nebraska Cornhuskers managed to get four players on the list. That could be another sign that things are going to go very well in 2025.
