Has Jordy Bahl and her Nebraska Cornhuskers softball teammates taken their game to the next level at just the right time. This weekend, it certainly looked like that’s exactly what they did. They’ll get to prove they can sustain it in the Super Regionals against Tennessee.

The Huskers swept their way through the Baton Rouge regional by a combined 32-3 score. Granted, some of the lopsided nature of that score is based on playing UCONN and Southeastern La (twice) but it’s not as though host team LSU was playing anywhere near competitor softball.

Jordy Bahl powers Nebraska softball to Super Regionals after Baton Rouge beatdown

And had the Nebraska Cornhuskers really run into LSU, does anyone really think the Tigers could have stopped, or even slowed down Jordy Bahl? Because she was quite literally unstoppable in the three games of the postseason so far.

Bahl was not just dominant when she registered an at-bat (5-for-5 with 4 homers and 7 RBI), but it was clear that opposing pitchers decided more often than not, they didn’t want to deal with her, since she walked 7 times. She was not retired. She was not struck out, nor did she fly out or ground out. All weekend.

That’s where Jordy Bahl’s teammates come in. Because even when the pitchers did decide to face anyone else, they didn’t have much success. See previous mention of 32 runs scored in 3 games. Bahl’s 7 RBIs are impressive, but not a even close to a majority of the runs batted in by NU.

Having said that, the former Oklahoma Sooner star is pretty clearly the Barry Bonds of this Nebraska squad. But there’s plenty of punch in the rest of the lineup.

In addition to leading the Huskers to Baton Rouge domination, Bahl won her 24th and 25th games of the season as a pitcher. She also set the school record for home runs in a season with 23. So, Shohei Ohtani is the better comparison. Ohtani on the Dogers though, not the Angels, because again, her “supporting cast” such as Ava Kuszak and her .429 average and 21 homers this season are very, very good.

Now Jordy Bahl and the Nebraska Conrhuskers softball team will get to see if they can keep the juggernaut act up in Knoxville. The Volunteers are the No. 7 seed and rolled through their regional without a loss as well. Though they weren’t quite as dominant. That series will begin on May 22.
