Now that the most successful Nebraska Cornhuskers basketball season in the school's history is in the books, it's time to turn attention to the baseball and softball teams. Luckily, both Will Bolt and Rhonda Revelle's squads are having very good campaigns so far. In fact, both are doing so well that they are ranked and projected to host regionals.

The Nebraska baseball team moved up from No. 24 to No. 19 in this week's polls after sweeping the Indiana Hoosiers over the weekend. One projection has them projected to be the No. 15 seed and hosting Southern Miss, Winthrop, and Southeast Missouri State.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers softball team took two of three from No. 7 UCLA and moved up to No. 5 in the latest rankings. Revelle's squad is now predicted to win the Big Ten, having moved into first with the weekend wins, and be the No. 2 seed, hosting South Carolina, Omaha, and Siena. There's still quite a bit of season left, especially for the baseball team, but both units are having fantastic 2026 campaigns.

Other Nebraska Cornhuskers news

  • The Nebraska volleyball team has made history over the last few years in attendance. They've also staged one massive outdoor match. Now they'll get to make a little more history outdoors as they'll take part in a Big Ten/SEC doubleheader at Wrigley Field in Chicago. They face Missouri on Sunday, September 6, on the Chicago Cubs' field. Penn State and Kentucky will also compete in the event.
  • Battle of the Boneyard is returning to Nebraska football for the second straight year. This summer, the event takes place on June 20. Last year, the 7-on-7 camp was free and open to the public and featured athletes from across the country. Most expect the same format this summer.
  • On Monday, Nebraska women's basketball team star Logan Nissley confirmed she'll return for one more season. This past season, she averaged a career high 8.9 points per game, as well as 2.5 rebounds and 2.3 assists per contest. She'll be a key returning player for Amy Williams' squad that has gone to three straight NCAA Tournaments and four in the last five years.
  • Former Nebraska Cornhuskers baseball star Brice Matthews is having a nice start to his 2026 season with the Houston Astros. After getting a cup of coffee late in the year last summer, he started opening day for Houston earlier this month, and on Monday, he blasted his first home run of the season. A no-doubter into the seats. While he played shortstop for the Huskers, he's playing mostly left field at the major league level.
