The Nebraska Cornhuskers came just a few runs away from taking the weekend series from the Oregon Ducks. Unfortunately, they fell short, losing Friday's game 7-6 after a great comeback and losing Sunday's game 5-4.
Despite the Huskers coming very close to logging a sweep, the lost series was part of a week where they also dropped a game to Kansas and went 1-3. That tough stretch had some pretty profound effects on NU. Not only did they fall out of the Top 25 but they also are no longer expected to host a regional.
Pear Ratings now has the Nebraska Cornhuskers as the No. 2 seed in the Morgantown Regional, hosted by West Virginia. Granted, there's plenty of season left to go, and with a Tuesday night battle with Creighton and a weekend series against No. 12 USC, should they manage to go 3-1 this week, there's a very good chance they'll be right back where it started.
