The Nebraska Cornhuskers basketball team is saying goodbye to one of their own as Larry Florence, who was a member of the program from 1996 to 2000, passed away on Saturday night after a long battle with cancer.
Florence was a real leader for his teams, as well as a four-year starter. His fight with cancer has been ongoing for quite a while, and there's been a rush to remember him and honor him while he was still around to enjoy it.
That included being the first basketball player to be inducted into his high school's Hall of Fame. Now, all of the Nebraska Cornhuskers nation wishes his family well and hopes that Larry Florence can rest in peace.
Nebraska Cornhuskers benefit from Jordon Hudson's interference with wrestling recruit
The Nebraska Cornhuskers wrestling program landed one of the best recruits it's had in quite some time this spring when head coach Mark Manning scored a transfer commitment from AJ Ferrari. As it turns out, Manning credits Bill Belichick's girlfriend, Jordon Hudson, for making it possible for the Huskers to get the talented wrestler.
Ferrari was involved in a situation that Hudson apparently wanted no part in, according to Manning, who was passed the information by the UNC wrestling coach. The question of course, is whether or not Jordon Hudson should ever be involved in decisions on who the wrestling program could take.
Huskers lose Omaha prospect Darion Jones to Iowa
While the Nebraska football team expects to come out of July looking quite a bit better than it did when it entered June, the Huskers have suffered some recruiting setbacks in the last two days. On Thursday, 4-star DB Devin Jackson committed to Big Ten rival Oregon. On Friday afternoon, Omaha defensive back Darion Jones also joined a B1G rival of the Cornhuskers in the Iowa Hawkeyes.
While neither recruiting loss was totally unforeseen, that doesn't make the defeats sting any less. Especially Jones, whose brother Donovan was a freshman at Nebraska this past season and played in five games while keeping his redshirt intact.
