On the same day that the NCAA announced the 5-for-5 eligibility measure was moving forward and could be voted on later this year, a new tampering rule squeaked forward as well, with very little notice or fanfare. However, should this rule pass, the Nebraska Cornhuskers, and every other team in the sport would be faced with an impossible task.
The Big Ten's rule would require any team that accepted a transfer player to prove it didn't tamper with the player to get him. In other words, every team in the country is "guilty until proven innocent." Worse than that, there's no indication how a team could prove it was innocent. It is near-impossible to prove that someone didn't do something.
While the Big Ten clearly thinks this rule would protect its member teams, it's hard not to wonder how the Nebraska Cornhuskers could prove they didn't tamper with Anthony Colandrea. How could Fred Hoiberg prove he didn't tamper with any of the new additions to his roster? The proposed rule seems extremely problematic.

More Nebraska Cornhuskers news
- Speaking of the women's Nebraska basketball team, they added one more transfer, a 6-foot-9 redshirt sophomore Arek Angui, from Auburn. Angui originally played at UCF her first season and redshirted, then transferred to Auburn, and is now with Nebraska as her third school. Angui will add some serious height to Nebraska, something the Cornhuskers definitely need. While ANgui may not bring a ton of experience with her, she can bring the presence in the paint that Williams needs to help the Huskers take that next step forward.
- While the women's Nebraska basketball team gained some big help, the men's team lost its strength coach, Kurt Joseph. The man, who many Huskers credit for a never-say-die attitude, while also helping transform their physique. Joseph made the jump to the NBA with the New Orleans Pelicans.
- The Nebraska Cornhuskers softball team is one of the best teams in the country and will almost certainly be a Top 8 regional team (meaning they'll also host a super regional). Jordy Frahm has certainly been one of the reasons the squad is so good, and that was demonstrated again on Monday when she was named the Big Ten Pitcher of the Week for the third time this season. Frahm earned a 2-0 record with a 0.64 ERA across two starts and 11.0 innings last weekend. She pitched a shutout in NU’s 13-0 win over Iowa on Saturday, which was also the Huskers’ senior day. She struck out 17 batters and walked only two, while her opponents averaged just .111 at the plate.
