While Matt Rhule and the football team are still a few weeks away from opening their season, the Nebraska Cornhuskers soccer team officially began the 2025 campaign on Thursday night, and they did it in convincing fashion.
The Huskers downed Southern Indiana 6-0, for its most significant season-opening win since 1996, on Thursday evening. Five different NU players scored in the game, and Kayma Carpenter notched two goals, including what was the eventual game-winner just 1:23 into the match.
The Nebraska Cornhuskers soccer team is hoping that 2025 will be better than last season, after injuries and poor play marred the previous fall. The Big Red will host the Missouri State Bears on Sunday, August 17, in Lincoln. The game is set for 1:05 p.m. and will be streamed on B1G+.
Cameron Jurgens thinks Nebraska is headed to the playoffs
Former Husker Cam Jurgens is getting ready for his own regular season with the Philadelphia Eagles. However, he still has one eye on his former school and has some relatively high expectations for Matt Rhule and Year 3 of his regime.
"All we need to do is win," Jurgens recently said during an appearance on Pardon My Take. "You know, they made the first bowl game in several years. So I was happy to see that. So this year, playoffs or bust."

New Nebraska punter Archie Wilson isn't your average freshman. The young player grew up in Frankston South, a town in Victoria, Australia, which is more than 8,000 miles from Nebraska's home base in Lincoln. When asked about whether he missed his family, he gave an honest reaction that has fans and coaches around the country backing him up.
"I love them a lot," Wilson said, immediately choking up. "I've got two little brothers and a mom and dad. That's the tough part about being here, I love them a lot and I miss them, but they know that this is what's best for me."
The Nebraska Cornhuskers' punter has impressed the NU staff with his big leg. But his honest reaction to being so far away from home has people impressed by his honesty and forthrightness.
