The Nebraska Cornhuskers baseball team sure picked a heck of a bad time to go ice-cold on offense. For just the second time all season, the Huskers scored 3 or fewer runs in two straight games. In the process, it's just the second Big Ten series NU has lost this season, and it comes amid a push to host a regional.
Will Bolt's squad lost 2-1 on Friday night, marking just the second time all year that the offense managed just one run. On Saturday night, it seemed like it might be another pitching showdown; however, in the end, Ohio State scored 7 runs and beat the Huskers 7-3.
The No. 16 team in the country has struggled in the last month of the regular season, and the Nebraska Cornhuskers need to regroup, figure out what went wrong on Friday and Saturday, and start a long winning streak if they want any hope of hosting a regional. According to WarrenNolan.comThe Huskers dropped five spots on Saturday and seven spots since Friday and now sit at No. 18 in RPI. The top 16 teams in the country host a regional.
Nebraska Cornhuskers softball notches first regular season Big Ten title
While the Huskers' baseball team is struggling at exactly the wrong time, Rhonda Revelle's softball team continues to be red hot. In fact, on Saturday, they clinched the program's first ever regular season Big Ten title.
Thanks to sweeping Penn State in a doubleheader, Nebraska didn't even need to wait to see who won the UCLA-Oregon game. The title is nice, but holding the No. 1 seed in the Big Ten Tournament is great too, and now it will play its quarterfinal game Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
More Nebraska Cornhuskers news
- While the Nebraska football coaches have talked a good game about liking the running back room, it's extremely unproven. That was demonstrated again this week when College Football Playoff Bracketologist Tyler Budge released his Big Ten RB rankings. He ranked Isaiah Mozee as the possible starter and No. 17 in the conference.
- Offensive line prospect Justin Parish Jr. is getting a ton of attention from Power 4 programs, including Penn State. For now, however, he doesn't have an offer from the Huskers. Considering he's the No. 1 prospect in the state, it seems likely that will change, but if it changes too late, Rhule might be too late.
- Speaking of recruiting, 5-star commit Tory Pittman is the crown jewel of the Nebraska Cornhuskers' 2027 recruiting class. That being said, some analysts believe he needs to show more in his senior season, as he hasn't been nearly as dominant as 5-star prospects usually are. Pittman's got the talent, but there's quite a bit of talk that needs to translate to numbers in 2026.
