Earlier this week, the Denver Broncos signed former Nebraska Cornhuskers wide receiver Samori Toure to their practice squad, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler first reported on Sunday evening. Denver will now have a full 53-man roster and 17-player practice squad going into their Week 6 showdown with the Jets.
Toure (6-1, 196 pounds) entered the league as a seventh-round draft pick out of Nebraska with the Green Bay Packers in 2022. He totaled 13 receptions for 160 yards and one touchdown in two seasons (22 games) with the Packers. Toure spent last season on the Chicago Bears' practice squad, but he was cut by Chicago coming out of training camp this summer.
Official transfer portal changes could be coming Wednesday
It won't be clear for a while just how it affects the Nebraska Cornhuskers, but big changes are expected to become official on Wednesday. The NCAA approved on Tuesday two significant changes to the transfer portal, shrinking the amount of time granted to athletes to declare their intention to pursue a transfer. The college football transfer portal will have just one window to enter the portal moving forward rather than one in the winter and another in the spring. The window will run from January 2 to January 16.
The second alteration pertains to the transfer exceptions granted to players after coaching changes. The exception currently allows players to enter the transfer portal during a 30-day window that opens the day after their coach leaves or is fired. The committee approved a new format, however, that is shortened to 15 days and begins five days after a new coach is hired or announced, seemingly in an effort to crack down on midseason portal activity.
