The Nebraska Cornhuskers basketball team is still licking its wounds from a heartbreaking Sweet 16 loss to the Iowa Hawkeyes but Husker fans have another team they can turn to to get excited about. The NU baseball team is on a run that's seen them win 17 of their last 18 games and logged another sweep against a Big Ten opponent.

Will Bolt's squad swept the Indiana Hoosiers over the weekend and they completed the sweep in emphatic fashion on Sunday. The Huskers had to squeak out a 6-5 win over IU on Friday, but after that, they dominated their way to a 12-7 Saturday victory and then a 12-4 finale on Sunday.

Alongside the Nebraska Cornhuskers now sporting a 22-6 record, they now have an 8-1 record in the Big Ten with their only conference loss being last Friday's 2-1 defeat. Nebraska is sitting in second place behind a juggernaut 12-0 in the B1G UCLA squad.

More Nebraska Cornhuskers news

  • The sweep wasn't the only noteworthy part of Sunday for the Huskers. Infielder Dylan Carey went 4-for-4 with a homer and four RBI and became Nebraska’s all-time career doubles leader. Carey’s four-hit performance led an NU offense that saw six different Huskers turn in multi-hits. Rhett Stokes went 3-for-5 with three RBI and two doubles, and Joshua Overbeek finished 3-for-4 with a triple and three runs scored. On the season, Carey has posted an easily career-high .376 average with 9 doubles, 6 home runs and 33 RBI.
  • The baseball team wasn't the only squad that had a great weekend. The Nebraska Cornhuskers softball team (26-6, 9-1) took two of three over No. 7 UCLA (29-5, 10-2) that also saw the Bruins lose their first two Big Ten games of the season. They took the first game 4-1 and lost 6-5 on Saturday despite a seventh-inning surge before winning 8-4 on Sunday.
  • Nebraska football's spring game saw a dip in attendance but there was still plenty to be excited about. Among them was the performance of the Huskers' running game on Saturday. Between the two squads, the NU offense ran for over 300 yards. Jamal Rule was the big standout, rushing for 121 yards and a touchdown on 9 carries. If there's a reason to be nervous, it's the passing game looked out of sync most of the day. There's also of course, a worry about a supposedly revamped defense getting run all over.
  • Speaking of the aforementioned heartbreaking loss to Iowa, Nebraska Cornhuskers fans were able to see a bit of karmic retribution when the Hawkeyes' Cooper Koch was in tears after his squad lost to Illinois in the Elite 8. Koch did the Gator Chomp in the handshake line after upsetting the Florida Gators. He also taunted NU fans after they beat Nebraska.
