Nebraska Cornhuskers news: Recruiting steal, defensive line hope, more

The Nebraska Cornhuskers add a promising scorer as postseason and line-play optimism builds.

Nebraska women's basketball scored another commit on Tuesday afternoon. 2027 Chesterfield (Mo.) Marquette High School forward MaryAnn Kenyon, a 6-1 player who averaged 22.3 points, 9.1 rebounds, 2.6 steals, and 2.1 blocks last season, is now a member of the Huskers' recruiting class.

  • Kenyon was a bit under the radar. She got an offer from NU earlier this month when she visited Lincoln, and she pulled the trigger not long after. The Cornhuskers were the biggest offer Martin got by quite a bit. Her other offers were from mid-majors such as Belmont, Marshall, Illinois State, Dayton, and nearby Lindenwood. With the numbers she put up, it's clear the lower-level offers were more about her level of high school than her talent. Martin could turn into one of the steals of the draft.

More Nebraska Cornhuskers and national news

  • One of the first ESPN Bracketologies of the 2026-27 season has Nebraska once again going to the Big Dance. Joe Lunardi believes the Huskers will get a No. 6 seed in the NCAA Tournament. Even better, he believes the Huskers will get to play very close to home. He has them playing in the Omaha Regional. If NU fans thought Oklahoma City was a home away from home, wait until they play in Omaha during March Madness.
  • The Nebraska football team is looking for answers on the defensive line after it was a weakness last season. It's possible that true freshman Dylan Berymon could be one of the answers, according to his position coach, Corey Brown:
  • "We are looking to get him, you know, in the best shape possible to be out there and be consistent,” The Nebraska position coach said about Berymon earlier this week. “But he has a really, really good skill set, and he's instinctual when it comes to blocks, to fitting to the ball, and things like that that carry a defensive lineman far once he gets everything else up to par.”
  • Geep Wade talked this week about how he's trying to get the offensive line to play better. He knows that teaching them too much, too soon, could end up paralyzing the players. He's talked about this often, and so have several of his players. Wade is an accomplished offensive line coach who has lots of plaudits. Here's hoping it works out well for the 2026 season.
  • The Nebraska Cornhuskers are also looking at a possible answer at defensive end from Mac Markway. The former Tight End has been injured often, but he's healthy this year and is looking to earn playing time for the first time in Lincoln since transferring two years ago.
