With the Nebraska Cornhuskers sitting at 12-2 on the the season and the a win over No. 15 UCLA having just come and gone, there’s been a lot of talk about how far NU could go this season.
Fred Hoiberg and company are looking for a return to the NCAA Tournament and of course, there’s been more than a little talk about how this could be the year the squad finally wins an NCAA Tournament game. Of course, that’s a ways down the road. And there’s quite a bit that needs to happen to get there.
As the Nebraska Cornhuskers basketball team prepares for what’s come next, some players seem to know what’s really important. Earlier this week, reserve guard and ace utility-man Sam Hoiberg talked about the biggest factor in continuing to succeed. That key is making sure they don’t get caught up in headlines. They can’t succumb to “big head syndrome.”
Nebraska Cornhuskers need to put the headlines behind them
When Hoiberg was asked what the Huskers have to do as they head further into the Big Ten schedule, he made it clear.
“Not think that we’re hot stuff. Because we’re not.”
That might sound simple, but’s actually pretty wise as well. There’s plenty of teams over the years that have seemingly bought into the headlines. They’ve felt as though there were teams they didn’t take all their opponents seriously.
Hoiberg seems to understand that the Nebraska Cornhuskers need to lock in. Here’s hoping the rest of the team is taking that approach.
