Just a few months before the Nebraska Cornhuskers basketball team opens its 2026 season, the university announced the squad’s official non-conference schedule. The seven-game home slate begins on opening night, as the Huskers will host Le Moyne in the first basketball matchup between the two schools. Later in the week, the Huskers will travel to the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn., for the Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-Off, where they will face Providence and first-year coach Bryan Hodgson, who led South Florida to the American Conference title last season.
- Nebraska’s five December non-conference games feature a pair of marquee games, including the Huskers’ annual in-state matchup with Creighton in Omaha on Saturday, December 5, and a trip to Kansas City to face a Missouri team that played in the NCAA Tournament last season and has one of the nation’s top recruiting classes. Those games will be sandwiched around Nebraska’s two December Big Ten Conference games, which will not be known until late summer. NU wraps up the non-conference slate with a trio of home games against Mount St. Mary’s (December 17), FDU (December 20) and New Haven (December 30) before resuming the final 18 games of the Big Ten schedule in January. Start times and broadcast information for all games will be announced at a later date.

- Nebraska volleyball was the unanimous selection to win the conference in the preseason poll released on Thursday. That’s not really a surprise considering that the Huskers won their third straight Big Ten title with a 20-0 record and dropped only one set to a league opponent against the UCLA Bruins.
- In addition to the team recognition, three Huskers picked up individual honors on Thursday. Setter Bergen Reilly, outside hitter Harper Murray and middle blocker Andi Jackson were all unanimous selections for the All-Big Ten preseason team.
- Andrew Marshall thought about forgoing his senior season with Nebraska but ended up coming back after getting a criticism he had a real problem with. Some NFL scouts told the defensive back he needed to play faster. While he believes he’s got plenty of speed to spare, he took that feedback and is using it to fuel his 2026 season.
- Wide receiver Demitrius Bell has essentially missed his entire career at Nebraska, but on Thursday, head coach Matt Rhule made it clear that while the wide receiver will take it slow, there is a chance he could be back and playing this season. It will be interesting to see how he cracks the depth chart.
- Rhule also talked about how excited he is to work with new quarterback Anthony Colandrea. He’s also excited about his quarterback room. However, he thinks that the former UNLV gunslinger will stand out because he has the “it” factor that’s badly needed to succeed in college football.
- The Nebraska Cornhuskers got a big lift to their running back room on Thursday as well when Rhule said that Mekhi Nelson was back with the team and “full go” after his arrest in Florida ended with the charges being dropped. Nelson immediately becomes the top candidate to be the starting running back for the Huskers in Week 1 at least.
