The Nebraska Cornhuskers baseball team’s weekend didn’t go how they hoped. They lost the first game of the series against the Iowa Hawkeyes on Friday night 1-0 but were absolutely hammered on Saturday, and then managed to win the Sunday afternoon game 6-4.

While the Huskers managed to avoid the ultimate embarrassment, the weekend series means that Will Bolt’s squad is in trouble. Sitting at 16-20 overall and just 5-10 in the Big Ten which has them 15th in the conference ahead of just Maryland and a truly awful Ohio State.

Former Nebraska Cornhuskers AD under fire

Trev Alberts is already enemy No. 1 in Lincoln thanks to the abrupt way he left the program just ahead of the basketball team’s return to the NCAA Tournament in the winter of 2024. It seems like he’s not making a ton of friends in College Station and Nebraska Cornhuskers fans can relate.

A report out of Texas A&M says that Alberts was not on good terms, and in fact did not talk to Aggies basketball head coach Buzz Williams for a full year. That may have been why the school lost Williams to Maryland. Not a great look for the former Huskers AD.

James Williams throws old teammates under the bus

Since James Williams left the Nebraska football program he can’t seem to help himself in bad mouthing his former teammates. Recently the former Huskers defensive lineman went on the radio where he said several things, including that Ty Robinson is quite a bit smaller than at least one of his Florida State teammates.

Needless to say, it didn’t go over well with Nebraska Cornhuskers fans.

Grant Seagren has the chance to start

Since Grant Seagren arrived in Linconln, he hasn’t grabbed many headlines. However, after Saturday’s scrimmage, Nebraska football coach Matt Rhule singled out the former tight end.

“"He’s got all the talent to be a starter. He just has to in his mind say, ‘I’m the starting left tackle.’ …He’s a big-time player in my mind.”

With injuries to several potential starters keeping them out of spring practice, Seagren will continue to have a very good chance to show what he can do ahead of the fall. Even if he’s not a starter for the Nebraska Cornhuskers, he could be nice depth.
