Nebraska Cornhuskers news: QB mystery, transfer haul, bizarre degree, more

Former Nebraska Cornhuskers defensive lineman Elijah Jeudy has hung up his spikes and picked up a whistle and clipboard. He’s taken a job as the defensive line coach with Highland Community College.

• On Wednesday, the former Husker announced his new career. “More blessings and new beginnings. The new D-line coach for Highland Community College,” he wrote with a picture of himself wearing gear from his new program as part of an official announcement.

• The job is a tough one. Highland CC went 0-11 in 2025 and is revamping the coaching staff because neither the offense nor the defense was remotely good last season. If the former Nebraska Cornhusker can help the team become decent again, it would be one heck of a feather in his cap.

Anthony Colandrea is still a mystery for Nebraska Cornhuskers fans

• While there’s excitement for what last year’s Mountain West Offensive Player of the Year brings to the table for Nebraska, there’s also plenty of worry about him bringing a lot of turnovers. Even with a few too many turnovers last year, PFF still ranked him as the No. 3 returning quarterback in the Big Ten. Colandrea was ranked only behind Ohio State’s Julian Sayin and Oregon’s Dante Moore.

• To help Colandrea work better in the Big Ten, Husker offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen has installed at least some of the most successful plays from UNLV’s offense. Colandrea is excited to show off how those led to him throwing for over 3,400 yards and rushing for over 600 yards.

• The Baltimore Ravens have waived undrafted rookie quarterback Diego Pavia days ahead of training camp. The former Vanderbilt star was expected to compete for the third-string quarterback job. Still, that competition will now be between veteran Skylar Thompson, who shined during minicamp, and undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano.

• LSU head coach Lane Kiffin believes that one of the fixes for NIL is to establish a “rookie” cap for incoming freshmen. Of course, to do this, there would need to be the authority to set such a cap, and the only way to do that would be to make players employees and collectively bargain it. Otherwise, this kind of rule would be taken to court over and over.

• 3x All-American Meyer Shapiro is transferring to Lincoln. The Cornell transfer chose the Nebraska Cornhuskers over North Carolina. NU now holds seven multi-time All-Americans on the roster.

• Arizona State is about to allow students to secure a degree in Social Media Influencing. There will be tests and other class texts, but the main point of the study is that those wanting a degree have to prove they know how to build a following. Meanwhile, the Sun Devils have shown everyone the decline of humanity in real time.

• The Nebraska Cornhuskers are lining up quite well to land one of the more talented wide receivers in the 2028 class. At the moment, Nebraska is vying with other Big Ten programs for 6-foot-4 David Forster, as the wide receiver starts thinking about visits. In addition to Big Red, he’s also looking at Penn State, Wisconsin and Syracuse as the four that are standing out from the pack.
