With Nebraska's success in the 2027 recruiting class, Matt Rhule and Co. clearly want to keep the momentum rolling. Now that they can afford to spend a bit more time on the 2028 cycle, Daikiel Shorts has pinpointed a big-bodied receiver he’d love to add to his room in David Forster. As it happens, the Huskers’ efforts in that regard seem to have made some progress, and the program is currently among the quartet of leaders for the New Jersey product.
Chief among the reasons that the Cornhuskers have managed to gain favor with Forster is that they got their foot in the door early. The wide receiver is still running somewhat under the radar, but it’s clear that more and more schools are paying attention to what he can do and why he’s worth getting an official offer.
At the moment, Nebraska is vying with other Big Ten programs for Forster, as the wide receiver starts thinking about visits. In addition to Big Red, he’s also looking at Penn State, Wisconsin and Syracuse as the four that are standing out from the pack.
The 6-foot-4, 200-pound consensus three-star wide receiver from St. Joseph Regional High School (Montvale, NJ) comes from a region of the country that Matt Rhule and Co. haven’t had a ton of success plucking talent from. That alone makes Forster an attractive target. He’s also got the length and reach that the coaching staff has found very attractive over the last few years.

David Forster places Nebraska football among four early recruiting leaders
NU is all about going out and getting pass catchers that are positioned to win jump ball situations. They still see the value of smaller slot receivers, but quite a few of their recruits at the position the last few seasons have had the bodies that can fight off smaller defensive backs in coverage.
Forster is ranked as the No. 239 player in the 2028 class, the No. 35 player at his wide receiver position, and the No. 8 player in the state of New Jersey according to 247Sports Composite Rankings. Because of those middling rankings, he has stayed under the radar for most teams. In addition to Nebraska, he has offers from Boston College, FIU, Illinois, Kentucky, Penn State, Rutgers, Syracuse, Toledo and Wisconsin.
Forster caught eight passes for 109 yards and one touchdown during his 2025 sophomore season while rushing three times for 16 yards and recording 163 all-purpose yards in seven games.
Nebraska is banking that those numbers are going to look quite a bit better in his junior season. Considering that when he appeared at this year’s The Opening Regional, Forster ran a 4.46 in the 40-yard dash, posted a 4.28 shuttle, and a 45-inch vertical, it’s a very good bet that he’ll put up monster numbers as he becomes a more consistent part of his school’s offense.
