One of the greatest scorers in Nebraska prep history will soon be looking for a new school. Could Fred Hoiberg and the Huskers be a landing spot for Aidan McDowell?

McDowell just finished his second collegiate season and his first with Division II Western Colorado as the leading scorer in the entire division. According to On3, he's looking to enter the transfer portal when the window opens on April 7.

The 6-foot-4 sophomore out of Crete, Nebraska, averaged 26.8 points per game this season. Those scoring numbers included Aidan McDowell knocking down 90 three-point attempts. The prolific scorer hit his collegiate career-high of 37 points against Angelo State earlier this season.

Aidan McDowell's transfer portal entry gives Nebraska basketball an intriguing homegrown option

McDowell's 26.8 points per game weren't enough to lead Western Colorado to a successful season as the team finished the campaign with an overall record of 10-18 and went 8-12 within the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC). That despite the fact that McDowell was named RMAC Offensive Player of the Week five times this season.

The question is whether McDowell and Nebraska could be a good fit once NU's season is over (hopefully just before the transfer window opens). He's the all-time leading scorer at Crete, totaling 1,489 points in his career, though he wasn't recruited by any of the state's big schools when he graduated.

Hoiberg certainly hasn't been shy about using the Transfer Portal since arriving in Lincoln. There's always the chance that the two sides could find a way to work out a deal, though it seems unlikely McDowell would come to Nebraska as a guaranteed starter.

Still, Nebraska is the hot new kid on the block as Creighton has had a less than successful campaign. The Huskers could do worse than offer Aidan and a chance to compete for court time.
