Nebraska's own backyard could provide a Transfer Portal dead eye for the Huskers

Nebraska basketball needs new starting guards, and one nearby transfer looks like a natural offensive fit.

The Nebraska basketball team got its first Transfer Portal commit earlier this week in frontcourt addition Sam Orme. While the Huskers are still looking for more big men who can handle the lane and also drain shots from deep outside, Fred Hoiberg also needs to replace his starting backcourt. When shopping for a starting guard to replace either Jamarques Lawrence or Sam Hoiberg, Paul Djobet fits the bill and wouldn't have to travel far to move to Lincoln.

Djobet hit the Transfer Portal when it opened on Tuesday, and he's looking for his third school after spending this past season with the Omaha Mavericks. Djobet missed all of the Mavs' non-conference slate due to academic issues, but once he started playing, he led Omaha in scoring with 17.5 points per game.

The Lille, France product also averaged 6.6 rebounds, also ranking first in the program, while starting all 16 Summit League contests. He paired a 51.2% mark from the field with a 41.5% clip from 3-point range, immediately making him a perfect fit for what Hoiberg likes to do on offense.

Paul Djobet could be an ideal in-state transfer portal target for Nebraska basketball

Over a nine-game span in January, Djobet averaged 22.2 points and 8.4 rebounds per game. Now that he's on the open market, it would behoove Nebraska to at least kick the tires and see whether he might want to stay in-state.

Granted, Djobet doesn't have a deep loyalty to the Cornhusker state, considering he spent just one year in Omaha after spending his first two seasons with the Miami Hurricanes. After starting just 4 of 44 games with the ACC power, he hit the portal last offseason and briefly committed to UAB before eventually landing with the Mavs.

For now, it's not clear if Nebraska will put on the full-court press for Djobet. Those academic issues could make the Huskers' head coach pause. However, it is clear NU is looking for backcourt help, and if everything goes according to plan, Hoiberg will reel in at least two new guards this offseason.
