There is something absolutely broken in the Nebraska basketball program. That’s the only way this can keep happening, no matter the opponent, no matter the setting. Something is just straight broken with this team right now.
For the third straight game, the Huskers came out and played a variation of the worst basketball of the season in the first half offensively. If there was a bright spot, it was that Michigan played pretty horribly as well. But NU still managed to take incompetence to a new level.
Nebraska basketball’s offense continues to be incredibly inept
At the half, Brice Williams was a respectable 7-for-13 from the field. The rest of the Nebraska basketball team was 1-for-19. That trend continued in the second half, though not quite to the same degree.
Still, the Huskers offense, outside of one good 15-minute period against Northwestern has been as bad as any that’s played in PBA. It’s not just that there isn’t a second scorer on the floor, ever, it’s that there isn’t a guy who can be counted on to hit a single shot.
Nebraska basketball steals defeat from the jaws of victory
What makes the loss on Monday night all the more frustrating, especially as the Huskers continue to slide out of NCAA Tournament range, is that offensively, Nebraska played very well defensively. They also got some help from a Michigan team that couldn’t hit the deep shot to save its life.
That’s cold comfort for a team that’s now lost three of four, fell to 17-11 on the season and has to win out for the rest of the season to really have any expectation of getting the call on Selection Sunday.
Nebraska basketball controlled its own destiny. Then it laid two massive eggs at Northwestern and Penn State. Then came home and somehow played worse offensively than it did in either of those games. The icing on the cake was trailing 45-44 with 1:36 to go in the game, and ending the contest without another point. And so, the Huskers lose a game they had every chance to win, 49-46.
