Now that the Nebraska basketball season is officially underway, Fred Hoiberg is logging wins on and off the court. In addition to starting the 2025-26 campaign with a 2-0 record, the Huskers also notched another 4-star commitment in Jacob Lanier, as an addition to their 2026 recruiting class.

Lanier, a shooting guard out of Little Rock, Arkansas, announced his commitment Sunday to the Huskers, becoming the second player to join Nebraska's 2026 class. He joins forward Colin Rice, who is also a 4-star prospect out of Waukee, Iowa.

Nebraska basketball scores a big commitment in Jacob Lanier

Lanier picked Nebraska over TCU, East Carolina, Texas State, and Arkansas. He officially visited Lincoln in early October. That the Cornhuskers were able to beat out the guard's home state team in the Razorbacks is especially noteworthy, as the rising SEC power is considered a tournament team this season and already has the top-ranked class in the 2026 cycle.

How the Huskers rebuild their roster following this season is still an open question. Due to the NCAA delaying the five-for-five eligibility ruling,NU is scheduled to lose seven seniors from its current roster after the season.

Guards Sam Hoiberg, Connor Essegian, Kendall Blue and Jamarques Lawrence as well as forwards Rienk Mast, Ugnius Jarusevicius and Jared Garcia will all be out of eligibility.

This new era of college basketball has meant that Nebraska head coach Fred Hoiberg has had to build from the ground up several times during his tenure in Lincoln. The addition of Jacob Lanier is a step in the right direction ahead of what could be a very busy late winter in 2026.
