The Nebraska basketball team didn’t get into the NCAA Tournament, as expected. It did however, get into the College Basketball Crown (CBC) tournament; again as expected.
On Monday morning, the Huskers got their bid locked in. They’ll be taking on an Arizona State team that had a terrible campaign. They finished the regular season at 13-19 (4-16) and were second to last in the Big 12.
The Nebraska basketball team will take on the Sun Devils in a couple of weeks. For whatever reason the CBC doesn’t start until the end of the month. Presumably to avoid losing any “hype” that might exist for a tournament that has several teams that posted losing records. Officially, the Huskers will tip off at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, March 31, at MGM Grand Garden Arena.

Nebraska basketball finds out its postseason destination
Should the Cornhuskers beat Arizona State, they take on the winner of Georgetown (17-15) and Washington State (19-14). Once the tournament gets going, it will only run for a few days. The CBC starts on March 31 and runs through April 6. The bonus here is that Nebraska fans will hopefully get to see the team play several games over a short period. And should they have real success and get to the Championship Game could eventually hand Fred Hoiberg his second straight 20 win season.
For his part, there were some who thought it was time to just pull the plug on a 2024-25 season but Hoiberg made it clear Nebrasketball would play a postseason game no matter what it is. He was still clear on that on Monday when he issued a statement about the CBC invite.
“We are excited to have an opportunity to continue our season and play in the first-ever College Basketball Crown,” Hoiberg said. “When we met as a team following the regular season, the players wanted a chance to continue playing. This has been a resilient group, and we are looking forward to a chance to play in the Crown.”
And so, the Nebraska basketball season plays on, at least for a few more weeks.
