Consistent support. That's why the Nebraska basketball team was able to land the No. 25 player in the entire 2027 class. Those were the reasons Dawson Battie gave on Monday night, not long after he'd pulled the trigger on his commitment.
“They’ve been the most consistent and supportive throughout the recruitment process," Battie told Dushawn London of On3.
Nebraska has also long been the frontrunner for the forward's services. It's clear that it was just a matter of time before he finally pulled the trigger. Earlier on Monday, there were even more rumblings that the Huskers were about to land not just the best recruit of the Fred Hoiberg era, but also the highest-rated commitment in the current database era.
Dawson Battie gives Nebraska basketball a recruiting breakthrough under Fred Hoiberg
Dawson Battie is a 5-star power forward in the 2027 recruiting class, according to the 247Sports Composite. The 6-foot-8, 230-pound forward plays for St. Mark’s School in Dallas, Texas. Battie is ranked as the No. 25 player in the 2027 class, the No. 4 player at his power forward position, and the No. 3 player in the state of Texas.
Battie chose Nebraska over Stanford, SMU, Baylor, Virginia, and several other programs involved in his recruitment.
As a junior during the 2025-26 season, Battie averaged 18.0 points, 10.0 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game while helping St. Mark’s finish 23-12. His performance earned him honorable mention recognition on the MaxPreps Junior All-America Team, and he was also selected to USA TODAY's ALL-USA Southwest first team.
During the 2026 summer circuit, Battie averaged 17.4 points and 10.0 rebounds per game in July for Southern Ties on the Puma circuit, earning Offensive Player of the Year honors. His summer performance helped solidify his standing as one of the nation's top 2027 forwards before his commitment to Nebraska.
