Nebraska basketball has fans everything it could have wanted and more in the 2025-2026 basketball season, from a stellar record to not just one, but two NCAA Tournament wins. Now, head coach Fred Hoiberg has the toughest job a coach can have: trying to do it all again, but even better.
Now that Nebraska has shown what it has the potential to do on the basketball court, the expectations are set, and Hoiberg is trying his best to put pieces in place to meet them. Hoiberg has done pretty well in the transfer portal, bringing in new pieces to supplement the losses and also retaining key pieces from the historic season.
Fred Hoiberg, Nebraska is keeping in touch with 5-star PF Dawson Battie
That isn't all Hoiberg is doing, though, as he is looking even more into the future to help Nebraska build a winning program for seasons to come. Nebraska is in the mix for five-star 2027 power forward Dawson Battie, who is also being looked at by other top programs like Baylor, Houston, Texas, and Texas A&M.

Even though Battie is in the Class of 2027, it is never too early to start recruiting for the future. Battie is ranked as the No. 11 player in the Class of 2027, the No. 3 power forward in the class, and the No. 2 player in the state of Texas, according to 247Sports Composite recruiting rankings.
Nebraska basketball trying to win a Texas-sized battle for key recruit
Nebraska is the only school outside of the state of Texas, where Battie is from, in the mix for his recruiting as of right now. If Hoiberg can beat out in-state schools for Battie, it would be a huge win for the state of the basketball program in Lincoln.
Hoiberg has proven he can compete with the bigger schools on the court, but now he has to prove it when it comes to recruiting.
