Former Nebraska basketball star Brice Williams’ NBA career didn’t start as he had hoped. His second chance might be the charm, considering how he’s played so far for the Detroit Pistons in their summer league games. Williams stood out in his latest outing as he tries to prove he deserves a roster spot this fall. The former Husker guard finished with 24 points (7-for-13 overall, 3-for-6 from 3), 6 rebounds and 4 assists. He has one more summer league game to show what he can do before the league heads into fall camps.s.
The biggest issue for Brice Williams has been his consistency this summer. The former Nebraska standout had a rough outing in Monday’s loss to the New York Knicks, finishing with just five points on 2-for-11 shooting. He followed up with his best performance in the short season in Las Vegas on Wednesday.
Williams scored all 24 of his points through the first three periods and got hot during a 38-19 Pistons run that allowed them to take their first lead, 59-57, midway through the third quarter. He sparked the offense initially in the opening period after the Suns opened the game with a 17-2 run, following up a steal and layup from Drake Allen with two points at the line, a transition 3-point play and a midrange jumper.
The 6-foot-7 guard also knocked down the Pistons’ first 3-pointer of the night midway through the second quarter after they opened the game 0-for 12 from deep. Nebraska fans certainly remember when he was the sparkplug for their offense in his final year in Lincoln, after he returned to the Huskers following an initial transfer.

Brice Williams scores 24 points as NBA Summer League push heats up
Wednesday night was Williams’ second high-scoring game of the week after scoring 18 points and knocking down 6-for-8 3-pointers on Sunday in a win over the Cleveland Cavaliers. The problem this summer is that he’s also had two games where he didn’t make it to double-digit scoring.
Williams is fresh off a G-League season with the Cruise in which he averaged 14.7 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 3.1 assists. This all came after he went unselected last spring but signed with the Pistons shortly after the 2025 NBA Draft.
The former Nebraska wing has clearly impressed onlookers when he’s able to find that next gear. There’s been more than a little talk about him making Detroit’s roster this fall. In fact, some analysts believe he’s one of two guys who could eventually accomplish that. He’ll need to keep playing more like he did Wednesday than he did earlier in the week if Brice Williams really wants to accomplish that feat.
