Just one day after the Nebraska baseball season came to an end, head coach Will Bolt appears to be losing one of the pitchers that would have been a linchpin of the pitching staff in 2027. Ty Horn posted a thank you to Husker fans on Instagram that looked very much like a goodbye. Shortly after the post, the Omaha World-Herald's Justin Frommer reported it was indeed a departure, though not to the transfer portal.

"Thank you Nebraska. Forever and always GBR," Horn posted. Many Husker baseball players were quick to give him a shoutout in the comments. He was followed by several fans who realized the pitcher was saying his goodbyes.

Frommer says that Ty Horn is looking to get selected in this summer's MLB Draft. However, if the pitcher doesn't end up looking as though he's on the path to an eventual spot on a Major League roster, there's still a chance he could return to Nebraska for his final year of eligibility. The real question is how the Huskers deal with his potential departure and whether they'll be able to keep a roster spot open or have to move on as they try to reload for the 2027 season.

This season, Horn was 3-3 and had a 4.03 ERA, 82.2 innings pitched, gave up 76 hits, issued 26 walks, and had 87 strikeouts. Last year, Horn made 18 appearances on the mound, starting in 17 games. He tied for third-most starts in a season by an NU pitcher in program history while posting a 4-4 record with a 4.94 ERA.

Horn also totaled a team-high 76 strikeouts in 85.2 innings. He was also a key member of the Cornhuskers' run in the postseason. He pitched 8 shutout innings in the Big Ten Tournament championship game against No. 13 UCLA, limiting the Bruins to 3 hits with 6 strikeouts and 3 walks. He followed that up by allowing just 1 run on 5 hits with 6 punchouts and a walk in 7.1 innings in Nebraska's win vs. Holy Cross at the Chapel Hill Regional.

This season, Horn started 12 games, but late in the season, head coach Will Bolt bumped him to the bullpen as a kind of ace reliever. He appeared in 10 more games out of the pen and was routinely one of the first in relief when the Huskers needed to shut down an opposing offense.

Horn did go back to the rotation in the regionals, starting Nebraska's Game 2 in the Lincoln Regional against Ole Miss. He kept NU in that game, going 5.2 innings while allowing 6 hits and striking out 9. Unfortunately, the Huskers' bullpen couldn't keep the team within striking distance in the 6-3 loss.

Just what happens with Ty Horn and his pitching career will be interesting to watch. Nebraska baseball fans are likely hoping he doesn't get the message he's hoping for from MLB and decides he needs one more season in Lincoln.
