Nebraska AD clears up NIL rumors with Dylan Raiola leaving the Huskers soon

If anyone thought it was about the money, Nebraska AD Troy Dannen is making sure to debunk those rumors.

Nebraska is stepping into a new age next season, one that won't include its starting quarterback for the last two years. Dylan Raiola has announced his intentions to enter the transfer portal, a choice that was both a surprise and not. While head coach Matt Rhule swore he didn't think it was true, the Georgia native has decided that two years in Lincoln was enough.

The decision behind Raiola's transfer may never come out, but in a recent interview with KETV, athletic director Troy Dannen is making sure everyone knows it wasn't about money for Raiola.

"Resources are not the reason anything negative happens," Dannen said. "We may not be fighting the same fight as certain schools, but we're fighting the fight that most schools want to fight."

If it wasn't because of money, why did Dylan Raiola choose to transfer?

Now, Dannen could not fully speak for Raiola, but he didn't feel like the NIL money was the reason for his transfer. The Nebraska AD even said that the Cornhuskers made sure the quarterback position was a well-paid position, just like in the NFL.

This is a question that Nebraska fans are going to be asking themselves for a while, and certainly will ask if Raiola ends up performing even better than he did with the Cornhuskers. There are always a number of reasons a player chooses to transfer, from just wanting a fresh start to another player behind them is making a move for their job.

While quarterback TJ Lateef looked good in place of Raiola when he suffered his leg injury, the job was always going to be Raiola's. Now, with coaching changes, that could have been another reason Raiola chose to leave.

The true answer probably won't ever come out, but it makes sense to ask if it was about the money. Nebraska can play ball when it comes to paying players, but other schools can certainly play the game better.
