Ever since Nebraska announced that it would wear alternate all-black uniforms against USC on November 1 at home, many have had their opinions about it. Fans have said that while the all-black is cool, it needs some of the signature Nebraska red in it to truly make it a Cornhuskers uniform. Others have said they aren't a fan of the all-black uniforms because Nebraska is 0-4 when wearing those alternate uniforms.
However, head coach Matt Rhule seems to really like the concept of alternate uniforms, mainly the all-black uniforms. Rhule said in a press conference after Saturday's fall camp practice that other premier programs in the country do new uniforms all the time, and with how iconic Nebraska is, they deserve to do it as well.
Rhule also believes that signature uniforms against big-time opponents can make the game a little more special. This game will be played at night, and a black uniform will add to that night game feel because let's face it, there is nothing worse than wearing a black uniform on a sunny Noon game.
The third-year Nebraska head coach actually believes that the black-uniforms should be worn once every year in order to bring that aspect of a big game out in the spotlight. He also noted that it is something cool for potential recruits to see when they are visiting a game.
Nebraska is calling for all fans to wear black against USC
Not only will the team be wearing black, but the football program is also calling for fans to paint Memorial Stadium black for the night game. While certianly the iconic Nebraska red can drown out any other opposing color in the stadium, the all-black look will certainly match the theme of the night.
This will be the fifth time Nebraska will wear all-black uniforms, as it started back in 2013 against UCLA, then again in 2015, 2019, 2020, and now in 2025.
