Since Penn State fired head coach James Franklin, things have been a little tense around the Nebraska football program. Things got a bit more tense when Huskers head coach Matt Rhule didn't put rumors that he was a top candidate to bed during his Monday press conference.
On Thursday, Rhule might have done what NU fans would have done earlier in the week. During an appearance on the Pat McAfee show, the Cornhuskers head coach made some comments that indicate he's not going anywhere.
Matt Rhule declares Nebraska a 'destination job' while possibly ending Penn State chatter
McAfee started things off in the segment, asking the Nebraska head coach what it's like with the team, with the rumors flying fast and furiously. Rhule answered that he just tries to be honest with them at all times. He added that he tries to get them to understand that these kinds of rumors are just part of college sports.
"[Nebraska] is a destination job ... I refuse to be distracted."

And then Rhule got to the good stuff. The stuff that should have Husker fans more optimistic than they've been since the rumors started swirling.
"This is a destination job. This is one of the greatest places in the world. This is a town of 300,000 people. Everyone says, like, Lincoln. It's 300,000 people here in Lincoln. Like, I can do whatever I want here. I have a great young team, the youngest team in the Big Ten. Think about how good we'll be next year."
Think how good we'll be next year.
"Now, I'm not thinking about next year, but where we are right now, we're learning, learning, learning," Rhule continued. "Think about where we're going to go with Dylan and all these guys. So I refuse to be distracted."
The Huskers' head coach then explained why he was so complimentary towards Penn State in comments that some construed as sounding like he was interested in the Nittany Lions' job on Monday.
"At the same time. It's when it's your alma mater, you have to show it love and respect. And I hope and I love Pat Kraft."
And then Rhule said the thing that should really get Nebraska football fans excited. The thing that comes as close to putting things to bed as anyone could hope, just a few days after all of this started. "They'll find the right coach for them, whoever that is. But, like this is a destination job that should be a national bully, that should be a beast. And I think we're making our way to doing that."
