Matt Rhule has plenty of positive takeaways about Nebraska's biggest area of weakness

The defensive line for Nebraska has had it struggled, but as the season has gone on, they have gotten better and better, and Matt Rhule is seeing that.

Nebraska's comeback win against Michigan State was one that the team as a whole can be proud of. The Cornhuskers got in some trouble after letting Michigan State back in the game and even taking the lead 21-14 in the third quarter. The defense had struggled to get stops, but then they did their job with four interceptions, some sacks, and the offense took over from there.

Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule is always going to be the first to point out what his guys need to work on, but he is also going to highlight his guys when he gets the chance. In his press conference this week, Rhule was asked about the defensive line and if he felt they took a step forward against Michigan State.

Rhule made a big deal about how it is just as important to point out the positive as it is to point out the negative, and he would happily point out the positive of the defensive line's work against Michigan State. He feels the defensive line did a great job containing Michigan State quarterback Aidan Chiles well and even kept the run game at a minimum with only 86 total rushing yards.

Now, of course, the Spartans were able to score three rushing touchdowns, but those were all from close range. For the most part, the Cornhuskers were able to contain the run as the Spartans' leading rusher was running back Makhi Frazier, who only had 58 rushing yards.

Chiles has about two players who got out of containment and made Nebraska pay for it, and Rhule will admit, those are the plays that coaches and players will remember, but the defensive line certainly took strides forward against a good rushing team, so that is something to take as a positive.

Now, the Cornhuskers will have to prepare for another team that has been playing well so far, with Maryland on the docket. The Terrapins are another good rushing team, so it will be good for Nebraska to see what progress they make in practice again this week.
