Things are looking bright for Amy Williams and the Nebraska women’s basketball team. Not only were they the only basketball program that made Selection Sunday a fun day, but the Huskers are among the four finalists for one of the top prospects of the 2026 class in Maddi Stewart.
According to Talia Goodman of On3, Stewart also unveiled her plans to visit her final four and then make a decision on where she’ll attend college shortly thereafter. It’s a big deal for the Huskers, who are looking to reload after back-to-back visits to the NCAA Tournament.
Maddi Stewart lines up June 13 Lincoln visit as Nebraska battles Big 12 foes for 2026 star
Stewart, a student at Lincoln Christian (Oklahoma), has named the Nebraska women’s basketball team, Missouri, and then home state teams Oklahoma and Oklahoma State as the final schools she’s considering ahead of her commitment. It’s always interesting to keep in mind that not all that long ago, this list would have four Big 8 or Big 12 teams doing battle for the star guard. Now, it's members of three different conferences squaring off.
Stewart recently spoke to Sports Illustrated about her recruitment experience, especially as someone who was once a hidden gem but is now getting plenty of attention from Power conference schools.
“It had always been a dream to play division one basketball, but after that it began to feel like reality. I would say I really started to realize that I could compete at a high level collegiately after Nebraska had offered me as well.”
Considering that Stewart is a State Champion, MVP, and one of the most highly recruited athletes in the state, it seems like excellent news that the Nebraska women’s basketball team is so front of mind. Stewart will be in Lincoln on June 13 after visiting Missouri on June 16 and OSU on June 19. The guard will wrap up her visits with OU on August 30.
