For those who aren’t fans of the New York Jets, the fact that the team fired its coach less than halfway through the season is sort of funny, at least to a certain kind of football fan. The kind of football fan who thinks that Jets owner Woody Johnson is cartoonish buffoon. The kind that thinks Aaron Rodgers has gone from being one of the best quarterbacks in the league to one fo the biggest headaches. Of course, for Nebraska football fans, it’s another unlucky turn for Adrian Martinez who was just promoted to the active roster.

And now, at least a few Husker fans are having some real fun with this firing. With the absence of Robert Saleh, a rather funny pairing has been pitched on social media.

There has been a rather unserious but hilarious push for the Jets to hire former Nebraska football head coach Scott Frost. And there’s even some rationale behind it.

Sportsgrid Podcast host Ben Stevens seems to be the first to come up with the idea for the former Huskers and former Jet to take over the helm. “Sometimes to move forward, you must go back,” Stevens wrote. “A man that knows the legacy of that franchise. New York Jets head coach, Scott Frost.”

Ex-Nebraska football coach the butt of New York Jets jokes

Stevens doesn’t believe that Frost should be the next head coach of the NFL team. And the joke shows that the former quarterback, defensive back and head coach still has detractors among people other than Nebraska fans.

Frost really did more damage to his legacy than to Nebraska football. Matt Rhule is fixing what Scott Frost did in Lincoln, but it’s going to take a while for the coach to fix his reputation in the football world. Both pro and college.
