It’s that time of year again for the Nebraska baseball team to make a Cinderella run towards the postseason. Granted, should the Huskers manage to win two more games, there’s an argument that their Cindereall run this year would be even more impressive than last, when they won their first ever Big Ten Tournament championship.
While things are a bit different in 2025, especially because the season simply hasn’t gone the way Will Bolt and company hoped it would, one thing has been consistent from last season to this one. Jackson Brockett stepped up when NU needed him most.
Brockett turned in 6 innings of 6 hit, 1 run ball for the Nebraska baseball team in a game where going that deep was important for several reasons. The first is that Brockett was facing off against the best team in the Big Ten in Oregon on Saturday morning.
Big-time Brockett steps up as Nebraska’s postseason magic resurfaces
Behind him, the Cornhuskers offense stepped up big as well, handing him a 6-1 lead before he exited the game. And while the bullpen did surrender a couple of runs and made things interesting in the 9th inning, Brockett’s outing was enough to allow his team to beat the No. 4 team in the country and No. 1 seed in the Big Ten tournament 7-3.
More than individual performances, the Nebraska baseball team getting its second win of the tourney hints that its ready to go on the same kind of run they did last year.
Now the Huskers will play another game game on Saturday against another team trying for a Cinderella run. Penn State is similar to NU in that they were the middle seed in their pool but managed to pull off upsets to get to the Semifinals.
The Nebraska baseball team will look to keep their own run going at 5 p.m.
