Even if Dylan Raiola wanted to take his Patrick Mahomes cosplay to the next level, it probably won't happen this season.
Raiola, who left the Huskers after the 2025 season and transferred to Oregon, has been the subject of some rather ridiculous rumors suggesting he could try to figure out a way to transfer to Texas Tech to replace Brendan Sorsby. As many of you know, Sorsby has checked himself into a rehab center to treat a gambling addiction and his eligibility for the upcoming season is in question.
Worried about the Dylan Raiola to Texas Tech chatter?

That idea has one major problem… and a few more that are hard to ignore.#GoDuckshttps://t.co/hYhovQmo5F
As On SI's Bri Amaranthus points out, even if Raiola wanted to go, it would be extremely difficult to execute such a move with the elimination of the spring transfer window.
"All the chatter is built on something that currently isn’t allowed. The NCAA eliminated the spring transfer window for the 2026-27 season. Any move would require a waiver or legal work around and there is no guarantee that gets approved. Banking on the NCAA to bend the rules doesn't make sense for a quarterback who is looking to establish long-term control of his career."
Fun rumors aside, Dylan Raiola isn't going to transfer to Texas Tech
Raiola would have to jump through a lot of hoops to get a waiver, even if he wanted one. The only path to a waiver that I could see would be if he had an immediate family member that was dealing with a major medical issue and he wanted to move closer to be with them. Raiola has been well traveled through this point in his football journey. He played high school football in Texas, Arizona and finished out his prep career in Buford, Georgia.
Without looking it up, I don't know where Raiola's parents currently live and how close it is to Lubbock, Texas. Even though the Raiolas have shown they will relocate wherever they have to for their son's football career, I feel safe in saying that such a move would be a serious undertaking and probably set off some alarms of skepticism.Â
If there was still a spring portal window open, I have no doubt Raiola would entertain a move to play at the same school that his football idol starred at a decade ago. We know he has no problems transferring, and Joey McGuire would probably welcome him with open arms.
But it isn't happening.Â
