It seems there are few years in this era of college football where things don’t shift underneath our feet significantly. This winter, it’s the Diego Pavia rule that has shifted how Nebraska football and others deal with junior college eligibility.

With the court ruling that allowed Pavia another year because his JUCO season shouldn’t count against his NCAA eligibility, the organization has followed that path in order to avoid additional lawsuits. That means the Huskers have someone on this year’s team that could be positively affected.

Nebraska football could conceivably get safety DeShon Singleton to return in 2025. The defensive back was considered totally finished because of his JUCO playing days. The big question now is whether or not Singleton wants to come back.

Nebraska football could be working on keeping a veteran safety.

Singleton spent his freshman season at Hutchinson C.C. and that of course means he could have another “senior” year in Lincoln. Of course, the difference between Pavia and Singleton is that the Vanderbilt quarterback was actively working for another college season.

By all accounts, Singleton seems ready to move on from his college days and look towards the NFL.

Of course, it’s possible that if he doesn’t hear what he likes from NFL scouts, he could start thinking about another campaign with Nebraska football. His injury in 2023 could also play a part here. That might convince him it’s time to go pro.

This could be one to watch over the next several weeks as the safety weighs his options. We could know more after the Nebraska football team appears in the Pinstripe Bowl.
