Dana Holgorsen still thinks this Nebraska team can be different

After a disappointing loss to Michigan and a week off from in-game action, the Nebraska Cornhuskers are ready to bounce back in resounding fashion as they take on the Michigan State Spartans.

Even with the loss, which came at the same time as Nebraska's first defeat during last season, which turned out to be less than ideal, the Cornhuskers' offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen believes that this team is different than any in recent years.

"I've never seen [practice] like that in a bye week," Holgorsen said. "Man, I am thrilled to see what it looks like on Saturday."

Holgorsen was talking about Nebraska's ability to bounce back from the loss to the Michigan Wolverines, and applauding his players and his head coach, Matt Rhule, for how well they attacked the week of practices.

Of course, one of Holgorsen's main focuses is quarterback Dylan Raiola, who is coming off a monumental performance against Michigan, despite the Cornhuskers' loss.

However, Holgorsen truly needs to lock in on the Nebraska running back room, which only earned 43 total yards against the Wolverines. This was due in large part to the offensive line struggling to protect Raiola, who lost 49 yards on the ground as Michigan sacked him seven times.

Even without the lost yards from Raiola, Nebraska's two-headed machine at running back (Emmett Johnson and Mekhi Nelson) only earned 84 combined yards.

Now, Michigan State is a far cry from the Wolverines, but it is still a Big Ten opponent that the Cornhuskers must take seriously. While Raiola has to maintain his high level of play, Holgorsen needs to ensure that the rest of the offense takes a few steps in the right direction to support their QB1.

In Week 6, the Nebraska Cornhuskers and Michigan State Spartans are scheduled to kick off on Saturday, Oct. 4, at 3 p.m. CT, and the game will be broadcast on FS1.
