The Nebraska football team is getting ready for the upcoming season. So is a former Husker, Ameer Abdullah. The man affectionately known as El Guapo has himself a new lease on his NFL life.
Abdullah, who has been in the league since 2015, posted a career-best season in 2024 with the Las Vegas Raiders. He posted career highs in rushes (66), rushing yards (311), receptions (40), longest rush (40), and receiving touchdowns (3). He did all that despite suffering a season-ending injury in December. Abdullah has seemingly recovered from the foot injury he suffered last December. He is now trying to catch on with a new team.

Now, according to Matt Zenitz, the former Nebraska football star has signed with the San Francisco 49ers. The running back will now get a chance to spend the 2025 season with his fourth NFL team while staying on the West Coast and competing for a playoff spot and his first trip to the Super Bowl.
Abdullah has made himself a nice career as a 3rd down back and special teams ace, but last year proved he can handle a bit heavier load. Considering the 49ers will start the year with oft-injured Christian McCaffrey and then quite a few question marks in the running back room, it certainly seems like it's a nice situation for the ex-Husker.
Abdullah enters the season six yards short of 2,000 rushing yards in his NFL career. He also has 8 touchdowns on the ground, 203 catches for 1,468 yards, and another 11 receiving touchdowns.
For the Nebraska football team, Abdullah ran for 4,588 yards and 39 touchdowns. He also caught 73 passes for 690 yards and 3 TDs. El Guapo is also the man who posted one of the most amazing plays in recent Husker history when he took a flat pass against McNeese State and turned it into a 56-yard touchdown where he broke at least 5 tackles.
