The Nebraska football team had a tiny class come in during the early signing period. The Huskers were clearly looking for quality over quantity. In Danny Odem, they got one of the highest-quality defensive backs in the 2026 class.

Matt Rhule and his staff are clearly excited about getting Odem officially. Likewise, the Florida defensive back is plenty excited about being a member of the Nebraska Cornhuskers, officially.

On Signing Day night, Odem appeared on Huskers Radio Network and talked about how "ready" he is to start practicing with his new Nebraska teammates.

"It's very exciting," Odem said when asked how geared up he was about becoming a Husker. "I tell Coach Rhule and Coach Addison (Williams) every day how ready I am."

Odem is also excited to play in front of Nebraska fans and was incredibly impressed by the way they show out for the team.

"Packed out every game. It’s freezing cold out there. They still out there packed. They showed me mad love on social media in person, wherever I go."

That Williams is almost certainly sticking around as the defensive backs coach definitely played a part in Odem keeping his pledge and signing on the dotted line on Wednesday morning. There was some concern after Rhule fired defensive coordinator John Butler on Monday.

Rhule told Odem he wasn't planning to overhaul the coaching staff; the Huskers have generally been solid on defense. Finding a new coordinator was a self-contained tweak.

"I’m not gonna lie to recruits. I’m gonna tell them the truth," Rhule said during his Signing Day press conference. "And they have to decide if they want to come here, and I think that’s one thing that Danny’s grandfather did say. He said it speaks to the integrity of our program that we made the move that we made on Monday. If we weren’t sure, we would have waited, but we knew the direction we were going, and it was best for everyone."

The next step is for Nebraska to get Odem on the field in the spring and start looking at how much he can provide in his freshman season.
