5 quarterbacks Nebraska might pursue after losing Kenny Minchey

The Nebraska football team suffered its most significant loss of the transfer portal season on Monday night. Kenny Minchey, who had committed to the Huskers almost exactly 24 hours earlier, flipped his commitment to Kentucky.

The decommitment was the latest in what has been a string of frustrating recruiting losses, but it was also the biggest. After watching Dylan Raiola enter the portal, the Huskers know they need to get a new quarterback to at least compete with TJ Lateef.

It was thought Nebraska could now focus on other positions and know precisely what it had to spend with Minchey in the boat. Now, after most of the biggest names available at quarterback have already signed elsewhere, there are a few players who stand out who could be the Huskers' Plan B.

Beau Pribula could give Nebraska a Big Ten veteran quarterback

Pribula spent his first two years backing up Drew Allar, but transferred to Missouri last year and took over the starting spot. In an injury-shortened season, he threw for 1,941 yards, 11 touchdowns, and 9 interceptions.

Pribula also has some scrambling ability. He ran 95 times for 297 yards and 6 TDs. However, he averaged just 3.1 yards per carry. He's hardly the running threat that Minchey was, but he's more mobile than Raiola has been in Lincoln.

Degree of difficulty: Virginia Tech and Georgia Tech have already been recruiting him hard. Nebraska might have to overpay and if they do, Husker fans are unlikely to be all that excited.

Aidan Chiles has long been a Nebraska quarterback candidate

Back when it became clear that the Huskers were going to need a new quarterback, the talk was that Chiles and Minchey were targets 1A and 1B.

Chiles' profile is undoubtedly closer to Minchey's than Pribeau's is, as he's a much faster runner. The upside here is that he's got more starting experience than either of the former QBs. The dark cloud in that silver lining is that he has been somewhat up and down and lost the starting job with the Spartans this year.

Degree of difficulty: Chiles still hasn't officially entered the portal. Maybe he's been waiting until the first wave all pick their schools, and then drive up his asking price for teams like Nebraska, who are more desperate.

Landen Clark could be a Mark Gronowski-type signing for Nebraska

Husker fans would likely be less than excited about handing over the starting quarterback job to an FCS quarterback in Elon's Landen Clark. However, it's worth pointing out that Iowa went out and signed an FCS quarterback in 2025. Mark Gronowski led the Hawkeyes to a season where they looked like a CFP contender at times.

Clark was a redshirt freshman this season and threw for 2,321 yards, 18 touchdowns, and just 8 interceptions. He also ran for 614 yards and 11 touchdowns. Hence the Gronowski comparison.

Degree of difficulty: There would be some serious grumbling if Nebraska traded a two-year starter in Raiola for an FCS quarterback who was good, but only completed 56% of his passes.

Anthony Colandrea could be an interesting dark horse candidate

Colandrea played his first two seasons with the Virginia Cavaliers before transferring to UNLV in 2025. He had his best career year in the Mountain West, throwing for 3,459 yards, 23 touchdowns, and 9 interceptions.

He also ran for 649 yards and 10 touchdowns. He had promised to stick with UNLV, and one day later, announced he was entering the portal. So far, there isn't a team that stands out.

Degree of difficulty: He got quite a bit better when the competition got worse. However, he put up numbers that could demand more money than Nebraska is willing to spend.

DJ Lagway is a big name who hasn't delivered

There was a time when Lagway and Raiola were considered two of the top young quarterbacks in the sport. Some analysts even had Lagway ranked as the top returning quarterback in the country.

He had a pretty awful 2025, throwing for 2,264 yards, 16 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions. He's also got some mobility, but didn't run as much as people expected, averaging 1.9 yards per carry on 74 rushes and just 1 touchdown.

Degree of difficulty: Lagway just took a visit to Florida State, and reports are that he's pretty high on the Seminoles. It might be hard to pull him away from the Sunshine State. He's also had almost as many picks as TDs in his career. People who remember Jeff Sims are going to need to take some convincing that this isn't a repeat with a less mobile version.
